About Us

Nestled in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains in Tumut NSW, The Cotton Merchants combine a beautiful location with extensive knowledge of design, colour and making. We provide an excellent range of fabrics, notions, haberdashery and threads. We believe in good quality tools and supply fine scissors, snips and pins. A variety of wares including lampshades, cushions and clothing complement our product range.

The Cotton Merchants distinctive style is due to the collaboration of our team of three businesswomen. Our story began with a conversation about providing a retail opportunity and support for local makers within the Snowy Mountain and Riverina districts.

Bev

With a background in visual arts teaching and specialising in oil landscapes and developing her expertise in fibre art and textiles, Bev brings her many years of creating in the form of stunning original patterns and kits, art quilts and fun advice. She has discovered to her delight that assisting customers is far more enjoyable than wrangling cattle.

Rechelle

Originally from Darwin, Northern Territory, Rechelle is a busy Mum of four who also operates an earthmoving business with her husband. You will often see a paint brush or drill in her hand as she constantly reinvigorates the shop with spectacular displays. Rechelle has a keen eye for bold, bright colours and enjoys sourcing exceptional Australian surface pattern designs and Indigenous fabrics.

Cathryn

Having always been creative, Cathryn has developed her art practice to include silversmithing and textile art.

She has a strong technical skillset which is helpful in assisting in project development. Cathryn is passionate about giving the creative community confidence, through positive advice and encouragement, to believe in their skills.
